When it gets really cold outside, mulled wine is just the right choice to warm up again. The appetizing color, the scent of various spices and of course the wine, which gradually conjures up this charming color on our faces. We’ll tell you the most delicious recipes for making white mulled wine yourself.

Whether after a walk in the clear winter air or at the Christmas market: mulled wine is simply part of the run-up to Christmas. In addition to the classic red mulled wine, there are delicious variants – such as the white mulled wine . The basis for the hot drink is white wine or, in the non-alcoholic version, white grape juice. Suitable wines are fruity, young and slightly bitter wines, for example Silvaner, Riesling or Chardonnay.

Instructions: Simply make white mulled wine yourself

The advantage of homemade mulled wine : You decide what ingredients are used! While finished mulled wines often taste heavily sugar-coated, you can let your imagination run free when choosing the ingredients and vary the spices according to your personal taste. A good balance between fruitiness and sweetness is important for a delicious mulled wine . Suitable spices are classic mulled wine spices such as orange peel, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, but also ginger, cardamom or vanilla can give the white mulled wine a special touch.

Mulled wine recipes for white mulled wine

Important when preparing mulled wine: To allow the spices to develop, you should make sure to gently heat the ingredients and let them steep. But be sure to watch the temperature. If the wine is heated too much, the alcohol content will dissolve and the aroma will change. Use a mulled wine cooker for this – this is ideal for controlling and maintaining the temperature. Alternatively, you can also carefully prepare the drink in a saucepan.

But there are also mulled wine recipes in which the wine-spice mixture is boiled down to a kind of syrup. Rum is particularly suitable for the famous mulled wine with a shot. For a non-alcoholic mulled wine , it is best to use a fine grape juice, apple juice also goes well with it.

Mulled wine, punch or Glögg – the differences

Legislators have regulated it: Classic mulled wine includes at least seven percent alcohol, red wine and the typical spices such as cinnamon or orange peel. Punch , on the other hand, can consist of fruit juice, tea, wine or schnapps in a wide variety of proportions.

The original punch comes from India, by the way, and consisted of arrak, a brandy that was drunk hot or cold together with water, lemon, sugar and other spices and to which Friedrich Schiller also wrote a punch song.

Glögg, on the other hand, is the Scandinavian variant of mulled wine, which is usually served with almond sticks and raisins in a glass.
