While finished mulled wines often taste heavily sugar-coated, you can let your imagination run free when choosing the ingredients and vary the spices according to your personal taste. Mulled wine recipes for white mulled wine
Important when preparing mulled wine: To allow the spices to develop, you should make sure to gently heat the ingredients and let them steep. But be sure to watch the temperature. If the wine is heated too much, the alcohol content will dissolve and the aroma will change. Use a mulled wine cooker for this – this is ideal for controlling and maintaining the temperature. Alternatively, you can also carefully prepare the drink in a saucepan.
But there are also mulled wine recipes in which the wine-spice mixture is boiled down to a kind of syrup. Rum is particularly suitable for the famous mulled wine with a shot. For a non-alcoholic mulled wine , it is best to use a fine grape juice, apple juice also goes well with it.
Classic white mulled wine
- 750 ml dry white wine
- Orange peel, organic / untreated
- 100 g of sugar
- 3 cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 star anise
- 100 ml white rum
- 4 orange slices
Preparation: Carefully heat the wine with the spices, the orange peel and the sugar in a saucepan and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes. Then remove the spices and peel, add the rum and serve the mulled wine with a slice of orange each in glass cups.
White mulled wine with ginger and lemon
- 500 ml white wine
- 300 ml clear apple juice
- 75 g white rock candy
- grated zest of an organic lemon
- 3-4 slices of ginger
- 50 ml orange liqueur
Preparation: Heat the white wine and apple juice together with the lemon peel, the sliced ginger and the rock candy and let simmer for 10-15 minutes (do not boil!). Then fish out the ginger, add the liqueur and serve the mulled wine.
White mulled wine with rosemary and orange
- 800 ml white wine
- 2 oranges, organic / untreated
- 4 sprigs of rosemary
- 100-150 g sugar
Preparation : Peel off some zest from the orange with a vegetable peeler or zest peeler and squeeze out the juice. Heat the orange juice with the wine, rosemary and sugar. Then let it steep for 10 minutes, then lift out the coarse ingredients and serve hot. Orange liqueur goes well with it.
White mulled wine with elderberry and basil
- 300 ml white wine
- 80 ml elderberry syrup
- 200 ml of water
- 15 g ginger
- 1-2 slices of lemon
- 6 stalks of basil
Preparation : Heat all the ingredients together in a saucepan and then let them steep for about 10 minutes, remove the coarse spices and serve the mulled wine hot.
Mulled wine, punch or Glögg – the differences
Legislators have regulated it: Classic mulled wine includes at least seven percent alcohol, red wine and the typical spices such as cinnamon or orange peel. Punch , on the other hand, can consist of fruit juice, tea, wine or schnapps in a wide variety of proportions.
